Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Is electrolysis painful?

A: There is a level of discomfort that you should anticipate with the session just as you would with any form of removing hair. Each persons tolerance varies. The electrolysis machine delivers a small amount of current, only for a few seconds then the sensation stops. Additionally, when working in a consolidated area, the nerve endings tend to tire and you will not feel every hair being removed. You may find that you are able to relax and enjoy the treatment. During the consultation or 1st appointment, we will test an area so you can get an example of the sensation.

Q: What is the cost of treatment?

A: This depends on many factors including your time commitment availability, length of treatment sessions, type of hair being removed and density of hair. Session times range from 30 minutes up to 3 hours depending on treatment area. The rate is $120/Hour. Your specific treatment plan will vary and your appointments will continue to get more and more spaced apart until the hair is completely gone. We will design a treatment plan together that fits your schedule and desired results.

Q: Does it damage my skin?

A: One of the beautiful things about electrolysis is that the appearance of your skin can improve after treatment. Once the hair is removed from the follicle, the skin is smoother and overall much happier. Immediately following a session, your skin may have some redness and swelling which typically fades within 24-48 hours. Electrolysis combined with the proper skin care regime is a winning combination.

Q: Can I wear make up after a treatment?

A: We don’t recommend wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment to avoid the spread of bacteria. Its best to keep the area clean, free of any cosmetics and not expose the area to makeup applicators such as brushes.

Q: How long do I have to grow my hair out before a treatment?

A: In most cases 3-5 days of grow out if you are shaving regularly. If you are waxing or plucking the area, please stop doing so at least 30 days before treatment and begin to shave. This helps your electrologist see more hairs on the surface of your skin and therefore be able to treat properly. When hair is removed via tweezing or waxing, its unknown exactly how long before those hair come up to the surface to be able to treat. As a rule of thumb, if you can grab the hair easily with your tweezers, that is long enough for your electrologist to properly epilate the hair.

Q: How do I know electrolysis is the best form of hair removal for me?

A: Electrolysis is for you if you, A) have hair and B) want it gone for good. There are other forms of hair removal that make sense for certain treatment areas. For example a large treatment area like an upper back may benefit from laser hair removal treatments first and then what hair is remaining after laser, you can have your electrologist take care of that. There is no shame in the hair removal game and there is a place for all of it. Waxing may make sense for your brows or bikini area and maybe you still want your underarms or upper lip done permanently. Only you get to decide what’s right for you in terms of what to choose to eliminate pesky hair.
